Prize for Frédéric Mermoud in Almeria (Spain)

The short film “Rachel” by Swiss director Frédéric Mermoud won the award for Best Screenplay at the 6th International Short Film Festival “Almeria en corto”, which took place in the Andalusian port city of Almeria. The award comes with a prize sum of 2,000 Euro. The film, which has already been shown at over twenty festival in Switzerland and Europe, will also participate in the upcoming competition at the 35th Film Festival in Huesca (June 7 – 16, 2007). In addition, the Swiss short film “Il neige à Marrakech/Snowing in Marrakech” by Hichan Alhayat was presented at Almeria and received an honorable mention.
In their justification for the award given to the film “Rachel”, the festival jury in Almeria emphasized “the simplicity and freshness of the story which avoids stereotyping of adults and contains characters full of life and reality”. An additional film by Frédéric Mermoud, “Le Créneau”, was recently presented at the Cannes International Film Festival as part of the Critics’ Week.
