The 50-year-old Swiss cinematographer Peter Indergand won a "Gold Panda Award" for “Best Photography” at the 9th Sichuan TV Festival in Chengdu (China) on October 27, 2007. The award honours his cinematography in Christian Frei’s documentary film "The Giant Buddhas", a co-production with SF and ZDF/arte released in 2005. In 2003 Indergand had already been nominated for this prize at the festival, held every two years, as cinematographer for “War Photographer”, which was awarded the prize for Best Documentary Film at that time.
After completing his studies in cinematography at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles in 1982, Peter Indergand went on to create the images for a great number of fiction and documentary films in various countries. He gained international attention with Christian Frei’s films “War Photographer” – nominated in 2002 for an Oscar – and “The Giant Buddhas”. His cinematographic works for Swiss films include “Heidi” by Markus Imboden (2000), “Ni olvido ni perdòn” (2002) by Richard Dindo and “Sternenberg” (2003) by Christoph Schaub, as well as both “Oltre il confine” (2001) and “L’autre moitié” (2007) by Rolando Colla.
