Swiss filmmaking has an exceptional presence at the Vancouver International Film Festival this year: eleven productions encompassing its entire breadth and diversity. This year’s festival programme includes the fiction films “Sister” and “Annelie” as well as the documentary films “More Than Honey,” “The End Of Time” and “Virgin Tales,” among others.

Eleven fiction and documentary films from Switzerland will be screened at the 31st Vancouver International Film Festival (September 27 - October 12, 2012). Never before have so many Swiss film productions received such a platform at the festival.

Fiction films in Cinema Of Our Time section
Immediately following its world premiere in South Korea, Antej Farac’s film “Annelie” (coproduction: el Patrol Art & Advertising) will be screened in the Cinema Of Our Time section in Vancouver. The film tells about an endearing troupe of fringe figures whose home – the former Annelie Pension in Munich – is threatened with closure. Four further films will also be screened in the Cinema Of Our Time section: Ursula Meier’s “Sister” (Silver Bear in Berlin) and “A perdre la raison” by Belgian director Joachim Lafosse (coproduction: Box Productions) – both of which are on the selection list for the European Film Awards 2012; as well as “Hunter’s Bride,” Jens Neubert’s film adaptation of “Der Freischütz”; and Massoud Bakhshi’s “Une famille respectable – Yek khanévadéh-e Mohtaram” (coproduction: Akka Films).

Documentary films
in Garden In The Sea section
Two films that premiered in Locarno also have a prominent presence in Vancouver: “More Than Honey” by Markus Imhoof and “The End Of Time” by Peter Mettler. They will be screened in the Garden In The Sea section, together with “Bottled Life” by Urs Schnell and “Raising Resistance” by Bettina Borgfeld and David Bernet. The documentary films “Virgin Tales” by Mirjam von Arx as well as “Gotthard Schuh. Eine sinnliche Sicht der Welt” by Villi Hermann will be presented with the directors in attendance.

This year’s festival presents over 380 films from 75 countries. It ranks among the five largest festivals in North America, rendering it ideal as a platform for film promotion.
