Ursula Meier’s feature film “Home” (Box Productions, Lausanne), which is the Swiss entry for the Oscar nominations, will be released in cinemas in the USA on November 27, 2009. Film director Ursula Meier and leading actress Isabelle Huppert will attend an advance showing of the film in New York on November 13. Last week “Home” was one of the eight European films presented at the screenings of the Academy Award entries organised by European Film Promotion (EFP) in conjunction with the American Film Market in Los Angeles.
The advance showing, organised by American distributor Richard Lorber, will take place in the prestigious Tribeca Grand Hotel in New York on Friday, November 13. Following a question-and-answer session, the guests are invited to attend a cocktail hour in honour of Isabelle Huppert and Ursula Meier, thanks to the collaboration with the Swiss consulate general. Lorber Films, which specialises in independent and foreign films, has reserved the Cinema Village for the advance showing. Thereafter, the film will be screened in further American cities.

Screenings of films submitted by their respective countries as candidates for an Oscar nomination were held in Beverly Hills from November 4-11: films from Bulgaria, Finland, Holland, Croatia, Austria, Poland, Hungary and Switzerland. With these screenings during the American Film Market, European Film Promotion aims to capture the attention of film distributors and Academy members at an early stage while giving maximum exposure to the entries for Academy Awards.

The film promotion agency, SWISS FILMS, supervises the Oscar campaign, which is supported by the Federal Office of Culture (SFOC) with CHF 50,000. “Home” was selected as the Swiss entry by an expert commission of the SFOC. The decision was announced at the film festival in Delémont on September 19, 2009, at which the audience had also selected “Home”. The award is endowed with CHF 10,000, which also benefits the promotion campaign for “Home“ with regard to the Academy Awards.
