At the 55th International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg, which takes place from November 16 – 25, 2006, and represents a festival for up-and-coming filmmakers, the Western Swiss feature film “Comme des voleurs” by Lionel Baier (Saga Productions, Lausanne) will be presented in the international competition. The film was also recently nominated for the 2007 Swiss Film Prize. The film “Belhorizon” by Belgian director Inès Rabadan (Co-production: PCT Cinéma et Télévision, Martigny) will also be part of the competition, with 20 productions in the running for the grand prize of the jury. The German-Swiss film “Wir werden uns wiederseh’n” by Oliver Paulus and Stefan Hillebrand, which celebrated its premiere in San Sebastian in September, will be shown in Mannheim-Heidelberg as part of the “International Discoveries” section.
The Swiss success movie “Mein Name ist Eugen” by Michael Steiner (Kontraproduktion, Zurich) and “Villa Henriette” by Peter Payer (Co-production: Maximage, Zurich) screens in the children’s program, while the internationally recognized short film “Wir sind dir treu” by Michael Koch will be presented in the “Midnight Specials” program, and “Dr. Strangehill” by Marcel Bächtiger will be shown in the short film program. This significant Swiss presence at the Mannheim-Heidelberg festival will be completed with the film “E nachtlang Füürland” by Clemens Klopfenstein (1981), which will be shown in the honor of Jan Heis, along with the CAB co-produced trilogy “Trois Couleurs”: “Bleu”, “Blanc”, and “Rouge” by Krzysztof Kieslowski.

Mannheim-Heidelberg focuses on young talents. In the “Mannheim Meetings” and in search of a co-producer, the Western Swiss filmmaker Romed Wyder will introduce his new project “Dawn”.

The Swiss filmmaker Jacqueline Veuve, who has already presented several of her films in Mannheim, is a member of the ecumenical jury.
