Six Swiss documentary films in Munich

A number of Swiss documentary films will be prominently represented at the 19th International Documentary Film Festival in Munich, which will be held from 7 to 15 May 2004. Peter Liechti’s film «Lucky Jack – Three Attempts to Stop Smoking» will be competing against 16 other films in the international competition, for which a prize of EUR 10,000 will be awarded by the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation. The following films are scheduled to be screened in the festival’s international program, “Point of View”: «Ässhäk – Tales from the Sahara» by Ulrike Koch (Production: Catpics, Zurich), «Dieter Roth» by Edith Jud (Reck Filmproduktion, Zurich), «Skinhead Attitude» by Daniel Schweizer, «Tarifa Traffic – Tod in Gibraltar» by Joakim Demmer (both from Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion, Zurich) and «Transformator» by Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov.
The festival in Munich is one of the most important platforms for documentary films in German-speaking regions, together with the film events in Leipzig and Duisburg. The festival, which has been under the direction of film academic Hermann Barth from Munich since 2002, has followed the Swiss documentary film scene with great interest for years. Swiss films are regularly invited to compete in the competition; last year’s films included: «Elisabeth Kübler-Ross – Facing Death» by Stefan Haupt, «Forget Baghdad» by Samir and «Shepherds’ Journey into the Third Millennium» by Erich Langjahr.
