A number of Swiss feature and documentary film productions and coproductions will be screened at the 30th Vancouver International Film Festival (September 29 - October 14, 2011). Milagros Mumenthaler’s feature film “Abrir puertas y ventanas,” which was honoured with the Golden Leopard in Locarno, and the documentary film “Sira – Wenn der Halbmond spricht” by Sandra Gysi and Ahmed Abdel Mohsen will celebrate its American premiere – with the producer of the film, Franziska Reck, in attendance – in the west Canadian metropolis.

Also scheduled to be screened in Vancouver is Peter Luisi's feature film "Der Sandmann," which has already won numerous awards in America. In addition, two Swiss coproductions are on the festival programme: "The Turin Horse" by Hungarian director Béla Tarr and "Corpo celeste" by Italian director Alice Rohrwacher, which had celebrated their premieres in Berlin and in Cannes, respectively. Parallel to the festival in Vancouver, the two films will be screened at the 49th New York Film Festival (September 30 - October 16). Furthermore, the Vancouver International Film Festival will present the film "Nainsukh" by Indian director Amit Dutta, produced by Dr. Eberhard Fischer, former director of the Rietberg Museum in Zurich and Indian curator and presented in Venice last year at the Mostra.

The festival, which attracted some 148,000 viewers last year, is geared towards its audience and has no competition, showcasing more than 350 film productions from 80 countries. As such, it is an ideal platform for promotion in North America.
