The Swiss documentary filmmaker Christian Frei presented his film “Space Tourists” for the first time in France on the June 22 at the 22nd “Sunny Side of the Doc,” the international documentary film market in La Rochelle (June 21–24, 2011). The screening was held in the Dragon cinema, under the auspices of the promotion agency SWISS FILMS.

The film "Space Tourists," which portrays man's dream of travelling in outer space, celebrated its world premiere at the IDFA Film Festival in Amsterdam at the end of 2009. Participation at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2010 garnered the film's director Christian Frei the World Cinema Directing Award, with further awards in Belgrade, Graz, Katowice, Oslo and Seoul. The film has already been screened at a total of 25 festivals, and now for the first time in France - in La Rochelle.

Sunny Side of the Doc, the festival's documentary film market, is the largest in France for this genre. Apart from the sale of film rights, La Rochelle is considered to be one of the most important platforms for coproductions in Francophone-speaking countries. On June 22, SWISS FILMS was a partner of the "Déjeuner de coproduction francophone," attended by representatives of production firms, buyers and broadcasting corporations from Belgium, France, Canada, Luxemburg and Switzerland. Some 2,000 film professionals from 50 countries attended the festival. Every evening Sunny Side screened a major documentary film for cinema to the festival's audience and accredited guests.
