The Shooting Stars event at the Berlinale climaxed with the presentation of the awards for Europe’s ten Hottest Young Actors on Monday, February 11, yielding a great deal of international resonance for the actress Carla Juri (“Someone Like Me”). The focus was indeed on Carla Juri, who represented Switzerland in this European event.

Since the announcement of the Shooting Stars, the Swiss actress Carla Juri has received a tremendous amount of international attention. She has roused the interest of renowned casting agencies in London, Paris and New York and is in demand as a candidate for coproductions while receiving numerous book offers as well. The media’s response to her appearances at the three-day Shooting Stars event (February 9-11, 2013) has attained an international level. During the International Film Festival in Berlin, ten young, talented European actors and actresses are introduced to professionals in the international film industry and placed in the limelight on Berlin’s Potsdam Square.

Rapid career
Carla Juri grew up in Ticino and studied acting in Los Angeles and London (2005-2010). Her first film role had already brought her a great deal of success: she was honoured with two Swiss Film Prizes – one for her leading role in Xavier Koller’s “Someone Like Me” and one for her performance in Cihan Inan’s “180º.” Thanks to her multilingualism, Carla Juri has also appeared in films in Germany, England and Italy. In 2013 she will star in the leading role in the German film “Feuchtgebiete” (director: David Wnendt) as well as in the English film “Fossil” (director: Alex Walker).
