Eight Swiss short film productions are among the 87 films from 27 countries scheduled for screening at the 23rd Odense Film Festival (August 19-24, 2008). In the running for the Grand Prix, amounting to 3,500 euros, are three short fiction films – “La valise” by Kaveh Bakhtiari, “Auf der Strecke” by Reto Caffi and “René” by Tobias Nölle – four animation films – “What’s Next?” by Claudia Röthlin and Adrian Flückiger, “The Bellringer” by Dustin Rees, “Tôt ou tard” by Jadwiga Kowalska and “Die Seilbahn” by Claudius Gentinetta and Frank Braun – as well as Zoltán Horváth’s “Dans la peau”, which combines film footage and animation.
The Plasticine animation “What’s Next”, which was recently honoured with the “Goldene Einhorn” at the Alpinale in Nenzing, Austria (August 5-10), is also competing for the Danish Animation Award, which was introduced by the festival last year and amounts to 2,000 euros. The films “The Bellringer”, “Tôt ou tard”, “Die Seilbahn” and “Dans la peau” are also in the running for this award.

The festival, founded in 1975 in Odense, the main city on the island of Fünen in the heart of Denmark, is devoted to short films of all genres and Danish documentary films. It is the largest short film festival in Denmark. More than 1,200 films were submitted to this year’s festival.
