The Festival de Cine Europeo y Contemporáneo is taking place for the second time in Sevilla, Spain, from November 4-12, 2005. With monetary prizes totaling 240,000 Euro and its announcements of European Film Award nominations, the festival has become one of the most important European film events. Switzerland is represented with several films in both the festival competition section and in other categories, among them Greg Zglinski’s “One Long Winter Without Fire” which won the 2005 Swiss Film Prize and is currently in the running for the 2005 European Film Awards nomination as well as the 2006 Oscars nominations. Swiss actress Johanna Bantzer (“Straehl”) is taking part in this year’s Shooting Stars meeting in Sevilla.
In the “Europa Europa” section, which presents a selection of films eligible for the European Film Awards, “One Long Winter Without Fire” (CAB Productions, Lausanne) will be shown along with the successful German film “Zucker” (Sugar) by Swiss director and actor Dani Levy. The “Eurodoc” section features “Feline Masquerade” by Veronika Minder (Production: Cobra Film, Zurich), “L’accord” by Nicolas Wadimoff and Béatrice Guelpa (Production: Akka Film, Geneva), “Life in Peace” by Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov, as well as the minority co-production “Die grosse Stille” (The great silence) by Philip Gröning (Co-production: Ventura Film, Meride). 30,000 Euro will go to Spanish producers of awarded films. A distribution award of 30,000 Euro is bestowed in the “Generation Europe” section, where the movie “White Terror” by Daniel Schweizer (Production: Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich) is in the program. “Straehl” by Manuel Flurin Hendry will be shown as part of the Shooting Stars tour, organized by the European Filmpromotion (EFP): After the Shooting Stars event in Berlin in February, and the first meeting at the Film Festival Setúbal (Portugal), this is the third time for Johanna Bantzer to present herself to an international audience along with 9 additional young European up-and-coming acting talents.

Part of the festival event will be the nominations for the 2005 European Film Award, which will be bestowed on December 3rd in Berlin.
