A total of eight Swiss films and co-productions will be part of the 29th “Festival des Films du Monde” in Montreal, taking place from August 26 to September 5, 2005. In the international competition, “Headsman” by Swiss director Simon Aeby, an Austrian-Luxembourg-English-German co-production with the participation of the Zurich firm T&C Film, will be shown. “Fragile” by Laurent Nègre (Production: Bord Cadre Films, Geneva) and “KussKuss” by Sören Senn, who was awarded with the Media Prize Babelsber in Postdam, are presented in the international competition for first time features, along with the Swiss-Romanian co-production “Ryna” by Ruxandra Xenide (Production: Navarro Film et Pacific Fil, Geneva). “Terra Incognita” by Peter Volkart (Production: Reck Film, Zurich) will be screened in the international short film competition.
The documentary section of the festival is showing Eric Bergkraut’s film “Coca – The Dove from Chechnya” and the music film “Brasileirinho,” initiated and produced by Marc Forster and directed by Mika Kaurismäki. Both films premiered at the 2005 Berlinale and have begun a successful international career. The feature film “Belhorizon” by Belgian Ines Rabadan, a co-production of the PCT Cinéma & Télévision firm (Martigny) with Belgium, Luxembourg and France, has been selected for the “Regards sur les cinémas du monde” section and rounds off the substantial Swiss presence at this year’s festival. A few days ago, the “Festival des Films du Monde” founded and led by Canadian Serge Losique, reestablished itself again as the only North American international festival with “A” status.
