Four Swiss film productions were honoured with international awards this past weekend. The long-playing animation film “Max & Co” by Frédéric and Samuel Guillaume won the Best Youth and Childhood Film Award at the 8th Monstra Lisboa Animated Film Festival (March 9-15). The short animation film “Die Seilbahn” by Claudius Gentinetta and Frank Braun was honoured with two awards at two different festivals: the Golden Cairo Award for Animation Films at the 19th International Children’s Film Festival in Cairo (March 5-13) and the “Coup de Cœur du jury européen” award at the 25th European Film Festival in Lille (March 6-13). In addition, the three-member jury in Lille awarded actor Urs Jucker the “Prix de l’interprétation” for his role in the short film “René” by Tobias Nölle.
The animation filmmaker Georges Schwizgebel and Duscha Kistler, co-director of the “Fantoche” animation film festival in Baden, were members of the international jury for feature films at the Monstra Festival in Lisbon. In the absence of the Guillaume brothers, Marcel Müller, staff member of the SWISS FILMS office in Geneva, attended the festival to receive the award for “Max & Co”.

The jury of the Cairo Film Festival, which was comprised of eleven film experts, provided the following statement when presenting the award to “Die Seilbahn”: “Very good animation and excellent concept easily understood by all cultures. Funny”.
