A total of 25 short films productions from Switzerland will be screened at the 22nd Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur (November 6-11, 2018). Five of these films have been selected for screening in the International Competition such as the short documentary film ALL INCLUSIVE by Corina Schwingruber Ilić and the fiction film CHIENNE DE VIE by Jules Carrin. Furthermore, SWISS FILMS is expanding its industry activities for the short genre this year. Apart from supporting the Industry Lab, SWISS FILMS is inviting sales representatives, international festival delegates and buyers to an exclusive Market Preview of Swiss short films for the first time in Winterthur.

Eighteen short films from Switzerland will be screened in the Swiss Competition, two of which are Claudius Gentinetta’s animation film SELFIES and Jasmin Gordon’s fiction film FRAMEWORK. Five of these films additionally compete in the International Competition: ALL INCLUSIVE by Corina Schwingruber Ilić; LIFE IS A BITCH AND THEN YOU DIE by Jules Carrin; THE SISTERS JARARIJU by Jorge Cadena; TALKING SOIL by Jan Baumgartner; and THE FLOOD IS COMING by Gabriel Böhmer.

ALL INCLUSIVE celebrated its world premiere in Venice (Orizzonti) and was screened thereafter at TIFF (Short Cuts). Moreover, the short documentary film was selected for screening at the renowned DOK Leipzig and IDFA festivals. Corina Schwingruber Ilić has already been honoured with two awards in Winterthur: in 2013 with Best Swiss Film for KOD ĆOŠKA, which she codirected with Nikola Ilić; and in 2010 with the Shortrun Prize for TONS OF PASSION. Jules Carrin’s CHIENNE DE VIE celebrates its world premiere in Winterthur. Last year in Winterthur Carrin presented his film FIRST LOVE, which won the Swiss Cinematography Award and was subsequently screened at the Berlinale.

In addition, seven Swiss short films will be screened in the Züri Shorts programme, including Jela Hasler’s documentary film WHERE WE ARE HEADING, which was selected for screening in the Pardi di domani section in Locarno in 2018; Nils Hedinger’s animation film KUAP, which has already been screened at numerous international festivals; and Cosima Frei’s WIR ZWEI, which celebrates its premiere at the Hof International Film Festival.

SWISS FILMS expands industry activities for short films

With the Industry Lab, the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur offers an extensive networking platform, as well as information and further training events for directors, producers and international industry representatives in the short film industry. SWISS FILMS provides support for the Industry Lab and hosts the roundtable on “Distribution and promotion via VOD platforms”.

Following the success of its Market Preview events at the Zurich Film Festival and Visions du Réel, SWISS FILMS is organising a Market Preview for the first time this year at the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur as well. SWISS FILMS presents four works in progress – promising short film projects from Switzerland about to be launched on the festival circuit and in international distribution. The Market Preview offers sales representatives, international festival delegates and buyers the opportunity to discover these new works at an exclusive screening, with the producers in attendance.

In collaboration with UniFrance, Wallonie Bruxelles Images and SODEC, SWISS FILMS is also organizing the Industry Brunch again, a networking event to which an exclusive selection of international festival delegates as well as Swiss and international filmmakers and producers are invited.
