“Sainte Barbe”, the latest animated film by western Swiss filmmaker duo Cédric Louis und Claude Barras will celebrate its world premiere while competing at the 31st Ottawa International Animation Festival. The renowned festival takes place in the Canadian capital from September 19 – 23, 2007. Along with 25 works, the short film is in the running for the “Nelvana Grand Prize” in the “Narrative Short Animation” section.
In “Sainte Barbe” Cédric Louis und Claude Barras are telling the story of a young boy and his grandfather whose beard possesses unimaginable qualities. In Ottawa, the film will be part of the competition section for independent short films, while in October, “Sainte Barbe” will be screened at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in Montreal. In 2006, the two filmmakers also took part in the international short film competition at Cannes with their film “Banquise”.

As part of the festival’s special program “10 Reasons to Love Animation”, the Swiss animated film “78 tours” (1985) by Georges Schwizgebel will be shown among ten honored short films.

The Ottawa International Animation Festival is among the most important animated film festivals worldwide, along with Annecy, Zagreb, and Hiroshima. It was founded by the Canadian Film Institute in 1975. In addition to film screenings, this year’s event also includes a “Animarket Trade Show”, a variety of workshops, several retrospectives, and the 4th Television Animation Conference.
