Eight Swiss animation film productions and one coproduction will be screened in competition at the Bristol Encounters Festival in Great Britain. All films screened in competition are in the running for the coveted Animation Grand Prix, the winner of which is eligible for an Oscar nomination in the category of Best Short Film.

The selection committee for the 18th Bristol Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival (September 18-23, 2012) is keen on animation filmmaking from Switzerland. Eight short film productions and one coproduction will be shown in the Animation and Mixed Competition, including the following internationally award-winning productions: “Der kleine Vogel und das Blatt” by Lena von Döhren, honoured with an award in Hiroshima in August and last weekend at the Sapporo Short Fest; “Borderline” by Dustin Rees; the coproduction “Kali, der kleine Vampir” by Portuguese director Regina Pessoa; as well as the box-office hit film “Bon Voyage” by Fabio Friedli.

Prestigious Partner des Festivals
Further recently completed works round off this Swiss selection, including Isabelle Favez’s short film “Au cœur de l’hiver” as well as “Nilus” by Alexandra Ruepp and Julien Duret. The directors of these films will travel to Bristol to present their films personally at the festival, thanks to the support provided by SWISS FILMS. Dustin Rees (“Borderline”) and Neil Stubbings, maker of “Stopover,” will also be present in Bristol. The Bristol Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival is the partner of four prestigious awards in the world of film, beginning with the Academy Awards. It is also one of the 15 elite partner festivals that present the nominations for the European Film Academy Short Film Awards, for which the winning film is automatically nominated. In addition, the award-winning films in Bristol can submit an application for the prestigious Cartoon d’Or – the pan-European award for animation short films – as well as the BAFTA British Film and Television Awards.
