Six Swiss short animation films will be screened in competitions at the 8th Annual International Festival of Animated Films AniFest, which is held this year in two locations: in Trebon from May 1-4 and in Teplice from May 7-10, 2009. Three Swiss animation filmmakers will travel to the Czech Republic to present their works personally to the festival audience. The film promotion agency SWISS FILMS has supported their presence at the festival.
The animation film “Manfred” by Daniel Zwimpfer (HSLU, Lucerne) will be among the 47 short films screened in the International Competition. It is thus in the running for a number of awards, including the Grand Prize endowed with 2,000 euros.

Four Swiss animation films will be screened, together with other 84 films, in the Student Films competition. Three of these films come from the Lucerne School of Design and Art (HSLU): “In Limbo” by Michelle Ettlin; “La main de l'ours” by Marina Rosset; and “Signalis” by Adrian Flückiger. The fourth film is from the HEAD Geneva University of Art and Design: “No Penguin's Land” by Marcel Barelli from Ticino. Claudia Röthlin’s film “Me And My Monster” – also from the Lucerne School of Design and Art – will be screened in the Commissioned Films competition, together with 76 other film productions. Film directors Daniel Zwimpfer, Marcel Barelli and Adrian Flückiger will attend the festival.

The city of Trebon, located in the south of the Czech Republic has hosted the AniFest since 2002. In order to expand the festival’s audience, this year’s festival will also be held for the first time in Teplice, a university city in the northern part of the country. All of the competition films will be screened in both cities.
