Swiss comeback at the Berlinale

For the first time since 2007, Switzerland will be present with a number of films in various sections of the Berlin International Film Festival (February 11-21, 2010). This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Berlinale. Silvio Soldini’s new fiction film “Cosa voglio di più”, a coproduction between Vega Film (Zurich) and Lumière & Co. (Italy), will celebrate its world premiere in the Berlinale Special section. The film “Aisheen (Still Alive in Gaza)” by Nicolas Wadimoff (production: Akka Films, Geneva) will represent Switzerland in the programme of the 40th International Forum of New Cinema. The film “Daniel Schmid - Le chat qui pense” by Pascal Hofmann and Benny Jaberg (production: T&C Film, Zurich) is a portrait of the Swiss filmmaker who passed away in 2006. The film was completed as a graduate film at the Zurich University of the Arts and will celebrate its premiere in the Panorama Dokumente section in Berlin.
The film “Aisheen (Still Alive in Gaza)” was shot in 2009 one month after the Israeli attack on Gaza and depicts the unadorned reality of the situation and the Palestinian’s will to survive in the territory controlled by Hamas.
Further Swiss film productions will be presented at the European Film Market, which runs parallel to the Berlinale in the Martin-Gropius-Bau. SWISS FILMS, the film promotion agency, will participate again this year with its own information stand.
