After its international premiere in Locarno, Christian Frei’s film “The Giant Buddhas” screens in the “Real to reel” section of the 30th Toronto International Film Festival (September 8-17, 2005). “Josh’s Trees” by Peter Entel, this year’s opening film at the Festival Visions du reel in Nyon, Switzerland, will be part of the international competition at the Festival international de films de Montréal, taking place for the first time from September 18-25, 2005, and led by Moritz de Hadeln. At the 29th Festival des Films du Monde (August 26-September 5, 2005), a total of eight Swiss films and co-productions, among them two documentary films, can be viewed (see press release from August 22, 2005).
At the international premiere of “The Giant Buddhas”, taking place in Toronto on September 10, director Christian Frei, cinematographer Peter Indergand, and protagonist and Toronto resident Nelofer Paziro, will be in attendance. The film’s international distributor is the Canadian firm “Films Transit International” which already circulated the internationally successful and Oscars-nominated film “War Photographer” (2001). The film “Josh’s Trees” by Peter Entell, who was born in the US and has lived near Geneva for the past 30 years, is one of the 14 films chosen for the new festival’s Iris competition for documentary and feature films. The festival was founded in 2005 by the Canadian film institutes Téléfilm Canada and SODED (Société de développement des entreprises culturelles). SWISS FILMS covers the cost for both film’s participation and organizes a reception in Toronto honoring Christian Frei.
