Swiss documentary wins European CIVIS TV Prize

The Swiss documentary film “Unser Garten Eden” was honoured with the prestigious CIVIS Media Prize for integration and cultural diversity on May 9.

The Swiss documentary film “Unser Garten Eden” was honoured with the prestigious CIVIS Media Prize for integration and cultural diversity on May 9. The film by Bernese director Mano Khalil won the award, endowed with EUR 5,000, in the information category. The TV gala took place in the European Parliament in Brussels.

“Unser Garten Eden” documents the meanwhile dramatic coexistence of native Swiss and New Swiss citizens in the multicultural garden colony. The jury’s view: “A splendid documentary which is outstanding from both journalistic and cinematic points of view.” The film has already been invited to the Berlinale, Beirut and Austria and is currently being screened at the major Documentary Film Festival in Warsaw.

For 25 years, CIVIS has been recognizing programme contributions which promote the peaceful coexistence of people of the most varied national, ethnic, religious or cultural origins. This year 631 programmes from 25 EU states and Switzerland took part in the European Competition. The Media Prize is awarded in seven categories.

In 2011 the Swiss animation film “Heimatland” took home the European Young CIVIS Media Prize.
