Four Swiss film productions and coproductions will be screened at the 58th Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF). It is Australia’s oldest and largest film festival and runs this year from July 24-August 9, 2009. In the “International Panorama” section, which showcases highlights from the Berlin, Cannes, Rotterdam and Sundance festivals, will present the following three fiction films: “Home” by Ursula Meier (Prod. Box Productions, Lausanne); “Villa Amalia” by French director Benoît Jacquot (coproduction: Point Prod, Geneva); and “Nordwand” by Philipp Stölzl (coproduction: Triluna Film, Zurich). Eric Bergkraut’s film “Letter to Anna”, which is dedicated to Anna Politkovskaja, the journalist who was murdered in Moscow in 2006, will be screened in the “Documentaries” section.
Approximately 300 feature films from every continent will be screened at the Melbourne Film Festival. Apart from this selection of films, there is a short film competition, featuring some 100 films from all genres. The MIFF is one of the most important platforms for the Australian film industry.
