Swiss films in Duisburg and Kassel (Germany)

At the 28th Duisburg Film Week, taking place from November 8-14, Swiss documentary filmmaking is represented with four productions. Among them are the recently honored film “Que sera?” by Dieter Fahrer, which won the Berne Film Prize and is now being shown in movie theatres in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. Audience favorite “Höllentour” (Hellish tour) by Pepe Danquart and Werner Schweizer, a Swiss-German co-production and “Pizzet” by Ivo Zen, a portrait about a farm in a remote valley in the Swiss canton of Graubuenden, are also presented in Duisburg. Additionally, “Lucky Jack – Three attempts to loose smoking” by Peter Liechti will be shown as well. This film will also be presented at the 21st Kassel Documentary and Video Fest (November 9-14, 2004) along with five other Swiss films.
The festival of German-language documentaries in Duisburg (with this year’s theme “Material”) strongly emphasizes discussions between the filmmakers and the audience, which typically follow the screenings. Dieter Fahrer, Peter Liechti, Werner Schweizer, and Ivo Zen will be in attendance for the presentation of their films.
The Kassel Film Fest represents a broad spectrum from classic documentary film to new media. Besides the long Swiss documentary film “Dieter Roth” by Edith Jud and “Lucky Jack,” the short documentary films “Transformator” by Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov and “At the Parishes” by Yael Parish, “Videosagen” by Ariane Andereggen, and the new, short experimental film “Der König” (the King) by Max Philipp Schmid will be shown at this year’s event.
