31.01.2008

The International Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, will run from February 1 – 9, 2008. This event is the most important festival for short films in Europe and will present eight Swiss film productions, three of which will participate in the international competition. Reto Caffi’s film “Auf der Strecke”, which was awarded the Swiss Film Prize 2008, is in the running for the Grand Prix International together with “René” by Tobias Nölle and “Dans la peau” by Zoltán Horváth. Seventy-five films from approximately fifty countries will be competing for this award.
The festival attracted 133,000 viewers last year and is, according to “Le Monde”, the second largest film event in France after Cannes. Five Swiss short films will also be screened in the following sections: Frédéric Mermoud’s film “Rachel”, which was recently nominated for die Césars, will be screened in the “Distributors” program; the animation films “Tôt ou tard” by Jadwiga Kowalska and “Animatou” by the five-member collective of film directors led by Claude Luyet will be presented in the “Ecoles” program; and Georges Schwizgebel’s film “L’année du daim” will be presented in the “Fais-moi un canin“ special program. Ursula Meier’s short fiction film “Tous à table”, which was selected for the Audience Prize in 2001, will be screened in the “Audience Prize” section.

The 23rd edition of the Short Film Market runs parallel to the festival (February 2 – 8) and is visited by approximately 2,800 film professionals from all over the world every year. SWISS FILMS will be present again with an information stand and a reception organized in honour of the Swiss short films presented in Clermont-Ferrand.
