Swiss presence at short film festival in Toronto

Switzerland will be represented with four short films at the 15th Toronto Worldwide Short Film Festival (June 16-21, 2009. Two of the films will participate in the international competition, with prizes amounting to more than 80,000 dollars. The 13-minute documentary film “BIPOLAR. An Interview With Richard”, Gabriela Betschart’s graduation film at the Lucerne School of Art and Design (HSLU), will be presented in the “The Edge of Reason” competition. The film “La Délogeuse”, Julien Rouyet’s 20-minute fiction film produced at the Ecole Cantonale des Arts de Lausanne (ECAL), will be screened in the “Concrete & Steal” section.
The two-and-a-half minute experimental film “I Drink Your Bathwater” by artist Pipilotti Rist (production: Hugofilm, Zurich) is among the 22 short film productions to be screened in the “Stories on Human Rights” programme in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Dutch filmmaker Bastiaan van Rooden, who grew up in Switzerland, will present in the “Shorts for Shorties: Animation Celebration” section his 4-minute animation film “Border”, which was produced last year at the Vancouver Film School.



The Toronto Worldwide Short Film Festival is the most important festival for the short film genre in Canada. The festival is accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, thus qualifying the winners in a short film section for an Oscar nomination.
