Swiss presence at the Viennale 2008

13.10.2008

With three documentary films, two fiction films and a short film, Swiss filmmaking is strongly represented at this year’s Viennale (October 17-29, 2008), Austria’s largest film festival. Two particularly outstanding documentary films are being screened at the Viennese festival: “The Fortress” by Fernand Melgar, honoured with a Golden Leopard in Locarno; and the film “The Mother” by Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov, which premiered at the festivals in Leizpig and Nyon. Furthermore, film director Constantin Wulff, who lives in Vienna, is the author of the documentary film “In die Welt” which, after having premiered in Nyon, will now celebrate its Austrian premiere at the Viennale.
In addition, Sergei Dvortsevoy’s award-winning fiction film in Cannes this year “Tulpan”– a co-production with Switzerland – will be screened at the film festival, as well as “In Praise of Love” by Jean-Luc Godard (2001). Although the Viennale has no international competition, it is regarded as one of Europe’s most challenging film festivals. Rounding off the remarkable presence in Vienna is the short film “Two Or Three Takes For One Idea” was co-directed by Marie-Catherine Theiler, from Switzerland and a graduate from the HEAD film school in Geneva, and Jan Peters from Germany.
