13.06.2006

At the 41st Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, taking place in the Czech town of Karlsbad from June 30 – July 8, 2006, several Swiss films will again be part of this year’s festival program. In the “East of the West” competition section, the film “Ryna” by Ruxandra Zendie (Production: Pacific Films, Navarro Film, Geneva) will be shown. This film has already successfully participated in several film festivals. In the “Another View” series, which is dedicated to documentary film, Peter Entell’s film “Josh’s Trees” will be presented – it won the grand jury prize at the 2005 International Film Festival in Montreal. The German-Swiss feature film “KussKuss – Your Happiness Depends On Me!” by Sören Senn is among ten European productions which will be shown in the “Variety Critic’s Choice” section. These films were selected in cooperation with the US film magazine and the European Film Promotion organization EFP.
Two Swiss co-productions will be screened as part of additional festival sections: “Slumming” by Austrian director Michael Glawogger (Co-production: Dschoint Ventschr, Zurich), and “La vie ne me fait pas peur” (Life doesn’t hurt me) by French director Noémie Lvovsky (Co-production: Vega Film, Zurich). Karlovy Vary is one of the most important film events in Eastern Europe, and it has been giving increased attention to Swiss filmmaking over the past years.
