Reto Caffi’s 30-minute short film “Auf der Strecke” won two major awards last weekend. On June 26 it was presented the “Lutin” Best European Film in Paris in conjunction with the 11th edition of the “Lutins du Court métrage”. On Saturday the film was honoured with the “Luna de Valencia de plata (Silver)”, amounting to 3000 EUR, in Valencia (Spain) at the 23rd Festival internacional de Cine “Cinema Jove” (June 21-28).
The short film by Reto Caffi, a 36-year-old director from Bern, was his final project upon graduating from the Academy of Media Arts (KHM) in Cologne and a co-production with Blush-Film Zurich. These two awards mark the continuation of the film’s exceedingly successful international festival career: after having won the Swiss Film Prize 2008, the Grand Prix at the International Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, as well as the Oscar for Best Student Film, the two most recent awards are number 17 and 18 in this young director’s line-up.

The 30-minute film, a love story between the department store security guard (Roeland Wiesnekker) and a clerk in the store’s bookshop, was one of the five European films nominated for the Lutin (selected from 27 short films, all of which had won national film prizes). The Lutin is, together with the César, ranks as the most important award for a short film in the French film industry. The 2000-member jury, comprised of French Film professionals and technicians, selected Caffi’s film as the winner of the award. Reto Caffi was present at the festive award ceremony at the Théâtre national de Chaillot in Paris to receive the prize personally.
