Swiss short film wins award in Montpellier

The short film “Roots” by Eileen Hofer was honoured with the CINECINEMA Prix at the 30th edition of the Montpellier Mediterranean Film Festival (October 24-November 2, 2008). The prize comprises the purchasing rights for a broadcast on this French station.
“Roots” tells of a village in Turkey threatened by the construction of a dam, and an unemployed father wants to celebrate the birthday of his 9-year-old son, who dreams of flying like his heroes Superman and Spiderman. The 18-minute film, which premiered in Leopards of Tomorrow competition in Locarno, has been invited to festivals in Autrans (France), Regensburg, Stockholm and Warsaw in November.
