Swiss short films at Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montreal

06.10.2009

Five Swiss short film productions and coproductions will be screened at the 38th Festival du nouveau cinéma (October 7-18, 2009), the second most important festival in Montreal following the World Film Festival. Eileen Hofer will present her internationally multi-award winning short film “Racines” in the international short film competition, which places her in the running for the “Louve d’Or” for Best Film.
In a programme featuring special screenings, the festival will present two films: the 35-minute documentary film “El futuro es hoy” by Sandra Gomez (production: Peacock Film, Zurich) portraying life in Havana; and the 40-minute film by Swiss-Canadian Peter Mettler “Petropolis” about the ecological catastrophe affiliated with oil production in the province of Alberta. In addition, the Swiss-French short animation film “Allons-y! Alonzo!” by Camille Moulin-Dupré and the one-minute film “Une catastrophe”, produced by Jean-Luc Godard last year as the trailer for the Viennale, round off the Swiss presence at this year’s Festival du nouveau cinéma in Montreal. The festival is on the list of the “82nd Annual Academy Awards Short Films Awards Festivals”. The winner of the competition in Montreal can submit an application to the Academy for a nomination in the Short Film section.
