Ten short animation film productions from Switzerland have been invited to participate in the competition programmes at the 35th Annecy International Animation Film Festival (June 6-11, 2011). This Swiss participation at one of the four largest festivals for this genre – together with Hiroshima, Ottawa and Zagreb – is the strongest presence for the past fifteen years.

The black-and-white animation cartoon film "Schlaf" by Claudius Gentinetta and Frank Braun will be screened in the Short Film competition. The film has already had an impressive career at international festivals and was nominated for the Swiss Film Prize "Quartz 2011" in the category of Best Animation Film. The three other films screened in international competition will be: "Kapitän Hu" by Basil Vogt; "Der grosse Bruder" by Jesús Pérez and Elisabeth Hüttermann; and the coproduction "The Lost Town Of Switez" by Polish director Kamil Polak (Archangel Film Group, Savosa).

Five film productions from the Lucerne School of Art and Design (HSLU) are being presented in the Graduation Films competition: "Animal Kingdom" by Nils Hedinger; "Baka!!" by Immanuel Wagner; "Fischmädchen" by Julia Maria Imhoof; "Xicht" by Cornelius M. Heinzer; and "Heimatland" by Quartets Loretta Arnold, Andrea Schneider, Marius Portmann and Fabio Friedli. The video clip "The City, Five Years Older" by Dirk Koy will be screened in the Commissioned Films competition.

This year SWISS FILMS, the film promotion agency, has organised its traditional reception on June 8, in honour of the filmmakers invited to participate in the various festival sections. SWISS FILMS will take this opportunity to present the new "swiss shorts_21" promotion DVD featuring 19 current Swiss animation films.
