Ten Swiss animation films at SICAF in Seoul

Ten short animation films from Switzerland will be screened at the 13th Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival (SICAF), which takes place in the South Korean capital from July 22-26, 2009. The French-Swiss coproduction “Le petit dragon” by Bruno Collet (Nadasdy Film, Geneva) – which recently won two awards at the Neuchâtel Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF) – is among the 41 films from 17 countries in the running for an award in the “Short Films – Professional” competition. Participating in the “School or Graduation Film” competition, comprising 50 films from 19 countries, are six Swiss film productions, five of which are from the Lucerne School of Art and Design (HSLU). Three of the directors who studied at the HSLU will travel to Korea to present their films personally to the audience and to professionals in the film industry.
The following films from the Lucerne School of Art and Design will be participating in the “School or Graduation Film” international competition in Seoul: “Chrigi” by Anja Kofmel; “Die Kinder im Mond” by Ursula Ulmi; “Grosse Pläne” by Irmgard Walthert; “Signalis” by Adrian Flückiger; and “Manfred” by Daniel Zwimpfer. The Swiss-Polish coproduction “Radostki” by Magdalena Osinska (Archangel SA, Lugano) will also compete in this section. Film directors Anja Kofmel, Ursula Ulmi and Adrian Flückiger will travel to Seoul to present their films, supported by SWISS FILMS, the film promotion agency. In addition, the short films “Me And My Monster” by Claudia Röthlin, “Optical Percussion” by Gerd Gockell and “Retouches” by Georges Schwizgebel will be screened in the parallel section called “SICAF Choice”, thus complementing the Swiss presence at the festival in Seoul.
The SICAF in Seoul, which has been accredited by the International Animations Film Society (ASIFA) since 2005, constitutes one of the most important platforms for animation films in Asia, together with the festival in Hiroshima. This year 167 animation films will be screened in ten different competitions, as well as 42 in the “SICAF Choice” programme. A total of 1423 films from 52 countries were submitted to the festival this year.
