The “new look” Swiss Film Prize 2007

The Swiss Film Prize 2007 gets underway this year with the new award category of “Best Screenplay”, a new look award ceremony, and support by the presenting sponsor, Swiss Life. The Committee of nine has nominated twenty films, five screenplays and six actors/actresses for the Swiss Film Prize 2007. The jury, headed by the famous writer Charles Lewinsky, will be awarding prizes to films in the following categories: “Best Feature Film”, “Best Documentary Film”, “Best Short Film”, “Best Special-Effects Film”, "Best Screenplay", “Best Performance in a Leading Role” and “Best Performance in a Supporting Role” as well as the “Special Jury Prize”. CHF 245,000 will be awarded to the Film Prize winners and CHF 355,000 to the nominees. The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday 24 January 2007 in the Solothurn Concert Hall, with prizes being presented by prominent figures in the presence of guests invited from the fields of culture, politics and industry. The award ceremony will be followed by a party.
The nominations (The entire dossier of information concerning nominations can be downloaded as a pdf. You will find it at the end of this text) have been made by a committee selected by the Federal Department of Home Affairs (Nominations Dossier). 89 films – a total of around 74 hours of Swiss film – were up for nomination. Films eligible for nomination were those that have been shown at major domestic and international film festivals or that have played in cinemas during the last year, or during the last two years for special effects films.



The writer, dramatist and director, Charles Lewinsky will be presiding over the jury. The well-known writer of some of the most popular television series ( “Fascht e Familie”) and a number of films for TV and cinema (“Just An Ordinary Jew”, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel), Charles Lewinsky’s writing is not confined to books ("Melnitz", etc.), whose style fluctuates between satire, historical fiction and novel, but extends to include lyrics and plays for radio and theatre.



The Swiss Film Prize is organised by the Federal Department of Home Affairs, represented by the Federal Office of Culture, in collaboration with the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR idée Suisse), SWISS FILMS, the Solothurn Film Festival, the Nyon International Film Festival "Visions du Réel" and the Locarno International Film Festival.
