“The Sound of Insects” in competition in Karlovy Vary

Peter Liechti’s “The Sound of Insects – Record of a Mummy” will be screened in the international competition for documentary films at the 44th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (July 3-11, 2009), which is the most important film festival in Eastern Europe following the festival in Moscow. In addition, French director Benoît Jacquot’s latest film “Villa Amalia” (coproduction: Point Prod, Geneva), starring Isabelle Huppert in the leading role, will be screened in the fiction film section of the competition.
“The Sound of Insects – Record of a Mummy” – based on the actual diary of a man who committed suicide by starving himself – celebrated ist premiere in conjunction with a retrospective of works by Peter Liechti at the International Film Festival Rotterdam at the beginning of this year. In April the film was screened in the competition of the Visions du Réel Festival in Nyon and has since been presented at festivals in Toronto (Hot Docs) and La Rochelle. Peter Liechti competed in the Karlovy Vary IFF competition in 2004 with “Hans im Glück – Drei Versuche das Rauchen loszuwerden”. He will attend the festival in the spa city in the Czech Republic this year as well to present his most recent film personally to the audience.
