11.01.2010

Just one month ago the film “The Sound of Insects” was honoured with the European Film Award – Prix Arte for Best Documentary Film – and it is now in the spotlight again: Peter Liechti’s film is one of the five nominees for the Spotlight Award of the Cinema Eye Honors to be presented in New York on January 15, 2010. Eligible for the award are nonfiction films which were screened at major international festivals or in American cinemas this past year.
Outstanding documentary films will be honoured with awards in eleven categories this year at the 3rd Cinema Eye Honors. This special recognition of original works in nonfiction filmmaking has been organised by artistic directors of major film festivals in English-speaking regions and includes the following members: Thom Powers, head of the “Real to Reel” documentary film series at the Toronto International Film Festival, Sean Farnel from the Hot Docs Film Festival in Toronto, as well as Caroline Libresco (Sundance Film Festival, Park City, USA), Doug Jones (Los Angeles Film Festival), Davis Kwok (Tribeca Film Festival, New York), Rachel Rosen (San Francisco International Film Festival) and Heather Croall (Sheffield Documentary Film Festival, England).

The award is sponsored by Indiepix, an American distributor of independent films, and by the HBO Documentary television channel. The award ceremony will be held at the Times Center in New York on Friday, January 15.
