Thirteen Swiss films at renowned festival in Leipzig

Jacqueline Zünd’s cinematic essay “Goodnight Nobody” about the mysterious world of insonmiacs will be screened in the International Competition of the 53rd International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (October 18-24, 2010) and is thus competing against nine other documentary films for the Golden Dove.

Jacqueline Zünd’s cinematic essay “Goodnight Nobody” about the mysterious world of insonmiacs will be screened in the International Competition of the 53rd International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (October 18-24, 2010) and is thus competing against nine other documentary films for the Golden Dove. Also in the running for a Golden Dove are the following works: Heidi Specogna’s documentary film “Das Schiff des Torjägers” which, after its presence in Locarno, will participate in the German Competition in Leipzig; the animation films “Schlaf” by Claudius Gentinetta and Frank Braun, as well as “Danny Boy” by Marek Skrobecki and “Laterarius” by Marina Rosset. Traditionally, the DOK Leipzig Festival has served as the bridge between Western and Eastern Europe and is one of the most important platforms in German-speaking countries.

The largest German documentary film festival recognises the high quality and diversity of Swiss productions and is screening a total of eight Swiss documentary films: for example, "Die grosse Erbschaft", the new documentary film by Fosco and Donatello Dubini, will celebrate its premiere in Leipzig. Further films included in the strong Swiss presence in Leipzig are: "Beyond This Place" by Kaleo La Belle, which premiered in Nyon; the 27-minute film "Familiensache" by Sarah Horst; "My Reincarnation" by Jennifer Fox (coproduction: Ventura Film, Ticino); "Aisheen (Still Alive In Gaza)" by Nicolas Wadimoff; and "Der Duft des Geldes" by Dieter Gränicher. Directors Jacqueline Zünd, Heidi Specogna, Fosco and Donatello Dubini, Marina Rosset, Claudius Gentinetta and Kaleo La Belle will present their films personally in Leipzig.

Together with the animation films in competition, two short animation film productions will be screened in the "Anima für Kinder" section: "Molly At The Dentist" by Ted Sieger and Michael Ekbladh; and "Mungge - Nid scho widr!" by Claudia Röthlin, Irmgard Walthert and Adrian Flückiger.

SWISS FILMS will present ten further new documentary films from Switzerland at the DOK Market in Leipzig and extend an invitation to the festival's "Get Together."

The following Swiss documentary and animation film productions are among the former award-winning films in Leipzig: in 2007 "La mere" by Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov; in 2006 "Jeu" by Georges Schwizgebel; in 2005 "The Giant Buddhas" by Christian Frei; in 2004 "Vivre en paix" by Antoine Cattin and Pavel Kostomarov; and in 2002 "Hirtenreise ins Dritte Jahrtausend" by Erich Langjahr.
