The 17th Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (May 4-9, 2010) will screen eleven short animation films from Switzerland, four of which are in the running for an award. Anja Kofmel’s animated cartoon film “Chrigi” (production: HSLU, Lucerne) is competing in both the international competition for “Best Graduation Film”, amounting to EUR 10,000, as well as in the “Young Animation” competition, devoted to student films.

Three other Swiss film productions will also be screened in the “Young Animation” competition: the puppet animation films “TV Dinner” by Maya Galluzzi and “Winter Sonata” by Yves Gutjahr; and the animated cartoon film “Wolves” by Rafael Sommerhalder. The festival held in the capital city of Baden-Württemberg will present several other film productions and coproductions from Switzerland: “Die kleine Monsterin: Molly beim Zahnarzt” by Ted Sieger and Michael Ekbladh will be screened in the “Tricks for Kids” programme. Presented in the Panorama Programme are the three coproductions “Allons-y! Alonzo!” by Camille Moulin-Dupré, “Le petit dragon” by Bruno Collet as well as “Parasite” by Omid Khoshnazar. Georges Schwizgebel’s “Jeu” will be featured in the “Best of Animation” section, while the collective work “Animatou” as well as “Punkt & Striche…” by Jésus Pérez will be screened in the “Best of Animateka”, a special programme featuring the International Animation Film Festival in Ljubljana. In addition, the festival in Stuttgart is honouring the German film pioneer Julius Pinschewer, who immigrated to Bern in 1934 after Hitler assumed power, with a retrospective comprising 16 of his short and advertising films.

Film directors Anja Kofmel and Maya Galluzzi will travel to Stuttgart to present their films personally at the festival, which constitutes the most important platform for animation film in Germany and is international acclaimed.
