Two Swiss animated films awarded in Ljubljana

19.12.2006

At the 3rd International Animated Film Festival Animateka, which took place in Ljubljana (Slowenia) from December 12 – 16, 2006, the short animated film “Jeu/Play” by Georges Schwizgebel (Production: GDS, Geneva) won the Grand Jury prize. An additional animated film, “Wolkenbruch” (transl. Downpour) by Simon Etz (Prduction: HGK, Lucerne) took home the Special Prize bestowed by Norwegian jury member Lars Fiske.
The five-member jury lauded “Play” an “inspiring film with masterful use of animation technique in order to seamlessly interpret a classical music piece.” This is the film’s sixth award in the current year.

“Wolkenbruch” captures an intensive moment and follows it through to a provocative ending.” This is the justification by Norwegian illustrator and cartoonist Lars Fiske for choosing “Wolkenbruch” as his favorite film. Each jury member awarded a prize to their preferred movie.

The newly established animated film festival “Animateka” took place for the third time in the Slowenian capital. Its focus is on animated auteur films primarily from Central and Eastern Europe.

Both “Play” and “Wolkenbruch” have been nominated for the 2007 Swiss Film Prize in the category for “Best Animated Film”.
