The documentary film “War Photographer” by Solothurn filmmaker Christian Frei has won the “Peabody Award” which represents the most renowned US television award besides the Emmy. James Nachtwey, who is portrayed in the movie, will be accepting the prize.
After its Oscar nomination in March 2002, the “George Foster Peabody Award”, known as the “Peabody Award” represents another high point in a long series of international prizes and honors. “War Photographer” is one of the most widely known and respected Swiss documentary films.

Since its inception in 1940, the oldest prize for electronic media is given yearly to radio and television programs by the “Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Georgia.” It is named after the banker (investor) and philantropist George Foster Peabody. Together with the Emmy Award, the “Peabody Award” is one of the most renowned and sought-after journalistic prizes in the United States with previous winners being Rod Serling, Orson Welles, Norman Lear, Barbara Streisand, Oprah Winfrey, and Christiane Amanpour.

Christian Frei is currently in the post-production phase for his documentary film “The Giant Buddhas” with a release date set for the end of this year. At a press conference in Cannes on May 19th, Frei will be speaking about his newest project “The Ring”, a documentary film about Lars von Trier.
