Winners of the Swiss Film Prize «Quartz 2011»

The Swiss Film Prize «Quartz» was awarded in the KKL Luzern on March 12, 2011. The gala event marked the 14th edition of the prize, with awards presented in nine categories.

The Swiss Film Prize «Quartz» was awarded in the KKL Luzern on March 12, 2011. The gala event marked the 14th edition of the prize, with awards presented in nine categories. With two awards going to the feature film “La petite chambre” and “Cleveland Versus Wall Street” winning the «Quartz» for “Best Documentary Film”, the directors from French-speaking Switzerland – Stéphanie Chuat, Véronique Reymond and Jean-Stéphane Bron – claimed the first places among the year’s best. The organisers – the Federal Office of Culture, SRG SSR and SWISS FILMS – continue their commitment to the Swiss Film Prize, making it available to sponsors as a platform as of 2012.

And the winners are...
In garnering two awards, the evening's victorious film was indeed "La petite chambre" (production: Vega Film). Stéphanie Chuat and Véronique Reymond accepted the «Quartz» for "Best Fiction Film" from Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard and then accepting the award for "Best Screenplay" from comedian Massimo Rocchi. Jean-Stéphane Bron won the «Quartz» trophy, designed by Alfredo Häberli, in the category of "Best Documentary Film" for "Cleveland Versus Wall Street" (production: Saga Production), presented by film director and president of the Swiss Film Academy Christian Frei. Anthony Vouardoux accepted the award for "Best Short Film" for "Yuri Lennon's Landing On Alpha 46" (Oliwood Production) from rapper Steff la Cheffe. The «Quartz» for "Best Animation Film" went to Michaela Müller for "Miramare," presented by animation filmmaker Georges Schwizgebel. Conductor Ludwig Wicki presented Marcel Vaid the «Quartz» for "Best Film Score" for the music in "Goodnight Nobody." Isabelle Caillat won the award in the category "Best Actress" for her leading role in the film "All That Remains," presented by Italian actress Alba Rohrwacher. Scherwin Amini accepted the «Quartz» for "Best Actor" for his role in "Stationspiraten" from comedian Marie-Thérèse Porchet. Carla Juri won in the category "Best Performance in a Supporting Role" for her performance in the film "180°."

Swiss Film Academy and the Special Jury Prize
Some 300 members of the Swiss Film Academy voted on the nominations and prize-winners. The jury, comprised of Academy members appointed by the Swiss Federal Office of Culture (SFOC), selected the prize-winners based on the nominations submitted by the Academy. The jury selected Gerald Damovsky as the winner of the "Special Jury Prize" for his production design in "Sennentuntschi," presented by author and theatre director Daniele Finzi Pasca.

Honorary Award
Special tribute was paid to Marcel Hoehn, producer of "Die Schweizermacher" and a number of other successful films (cf. press release on March 1, 2011). The Honorary Award was presented to him by cinematographer Renato Berta.

Award ceremony
Roger de Weck, managing director SRG SSR, opened the award ceremony as the organiser of the gala event with a welcoming speech. Television moderator Susanne Kunz hosted the bilingual award ceremony, with 900 guests from culture, politics and business in attendance. Musical highlights of the festive evening were provided by the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra, conduced by Ludwig Wicki.

Swiss Film Night on TV
Three SRG television channels - SF zwei, TSR 1 and RSI LA 1 - devoted Saturday evening, March 12, 2011, to Swiss filmmaking and broadcast coverage of the Swiss Film Prize «Quartz 2011,» as well as Swiss feature films.
SRG radio stations also broadcast detailed reports on the Swiss Film Prize «Quartz 2011» and Swiss filmmaking.

Swiss Film Prize «Quartz 2012
The organisers - the Federal Office of Culture, SRG and SWISS FILMS - will affirm their mutual engagement for the Swiss Film Prize «Quartz» by holding the gala event again in the KKL Luzern next year on Saturday, March 17, 2012.

From 2009 to 2011, SRG organised and financed the gala event in Lucerne, which has since evolved into a unique cultural highlight. Although SRG will reduce its involvement in the future, it will remain a main partner. As of 2012, the Swiss Film Prize will also be available to sponsors as a platform. SWISS FILMS will be responsible for organising the gala event.
