“Zimmer 606” wins Méliès d’Or in Sitges

Peter Volkart’s short film “Zimmer 606” was honoured with the Méliès d'Or 2012 for Best European Fantastic Short Film. Fifteen films were in the running for this prestigious award, which was presented in Sitges, Spain.

Peter Volkart’s 15-minute fiction film “Zimmer 606” won the Méliès d’Or at the 16th Méliès d’Or Award Ceremony held on October 4. The award ceremony took place in conjunction with the 45th Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya in Sitges (October 4-14, 2012). Volkart’s film, which was honoured with three awards in July at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival (NIFFF), was the Swiss candidate in the running for this award presented by the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation (EFFFF). The federation is comprised of 20 members from 16 countries.

Recognition for the fantastic film genre
The Méliès d’Or awards for feature-length film productions have been presented since 1996 and since 2002 to short film productions as well. The award ceremony has been held in conjunction with the renowned film festival in Sitges since 2008. This year Marek Skrobecki’s film “Danny Boy,” coproduced in Switzerland, was in the running for the award with “Zimmer 606.”
