Born in 1989 in Basel, Switzerland. Joint Swiss and Italian citizenship. He studied Communication and Film Studies at the University of Zurich (BA) and worked as a director, assistant director and editor in Zurich before studying directing at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg.
His short films have been shown at national and international festivals and have been honoured with various awards (including the Basel Film Prize)
In 2020 he received the Swiss Television Treatment Award at the Zurich Film Festival.
Ares works as a director and screenwriter in Switzerland and Germany.
