À la campagne, Andrej, onze ans, rend visite à son grand-père. Mais à la place de cet ami plein de vie, il rencontre un vieil homme malade. Andrej se ferme à cette réalité oppressante et se réfugie dans ses souvenirs. Il se souvient d'une averse estivale où tout le monde s'est précipité dans la maison et où seul le grand-père est resté assis sous la pluie. Tout à coup, il comprend ce que le vieil homme attendait alors: il l'attendait!
