“Encounters on the Milky Way”, are meetings between two worlds, between the savannah and alpine meadows, between West Africa and Switzerland. A different sort of “road movie”, not one that travels from city to city or from one adventure to another but a movie that helps to “close the gap” between peoples, made up of snapshots that capture the differences as well as the similarities of the subjects. In the film Swiss and West Africans meet face to face: a livestock breeder from Burkina Faso with a dairy farmer from the Bernese Lake District, an organic farmer with a charismatic veterinary doctor from the Sahel. Despite their obvious differences there is always something they have in common, be it their detached view of the financial rewards involved, the respect they have for both people and animals, or simply their striving for development.
