The alphorn is often misused as a symbol in advertising for Alpine tourism. Yet it is a remarkable instrument, its potential far from exhausted. Stefan Schwietert's film takes us on a musical journey, starting with the wild “Büchelsätzli” of the Swiss interior, through to traditional melodies by contemporary composer Hans-Jürg Sommer. Culminating in a modern sound collage on 16 alphorns, performed by Swiss jazz man Hans Kennel, the sheer panoply of alphorn music will take your breath away.
