In interviews with a number of people who either befriended Niklaus Meienberg, loved him or in some cases took a dislike to him, Tobias Wyss attempts to capture the full dimensions of a man who behaved like a bull in the china shop of Swiss politics, journalism and literature: THE Meienberg. He was a man no one could ignore, who towered like a giant, dwarfing those around him, who fascinated people and cast a spell on them, but who towards the end of his life increasingly left his entourage perplexed – in particular by his suicide. This documentary shows the different faces of a man who did not find it easy to accept his origins or his country, Switzerland. This tension was a creative factor, a spur to constant dialogue with the “homeland”.
