Paul Weibel is a man who follows his own dictates. He travels back and forth between Spain and Switzerland. In Valencia he is involved with a theatre ensemble that originated in an underprivileged neighbourhood. In Switzerland he works with independent theatre groups that work with no financial guarantees: for instance, with Karls Kühne Gassenschau, which often calls him to co-direct their productions. Paul Weibel, born in 1943, views culture as a basic human necessity and takes the stories of fringe groups seriously. Culture must be conscientious and should not be degraded to the level of an item for consumption.
