Michele and Elsa have a 20-year-old daughter, Alice, and all the material comforts for Elsa to throw in her job and follow her old dream of studying art history. But their life starts to unravel soon after: Michele admits that he hasn’t worked for two months and that he has been fired. There is more: their house is up for sale, and their bank account is dwindling rapidly. It’s a shock for Elsa, but she is a fighter, whereas Michele lets himself go completely until their relationship reaches breaking point. Finally they realize that they have too much at stake, namely the love between them. Their future is an unknown, but could it change for the better?

Michele ed Elsa hanno una figlia ventenne, Alice e conducono una vita serena. Grazie a questa serenità Elsa decide di lasciare il lavoro e inseguire il suo sogno di quando era ragazza: laurearsi in storia dell’arte. In seguito a questa decisione la loro vita cambia. Michele confessa di non lavorare da due mesi e di essere stato estromesso dalla società che lui stesso aveva creato anni prima. E non è tutto: la casa in cui abitano è in vendita, i soldi in banca sono sempre meno... Per Elsa è come un fulmine a ciel sereno. Ma superato lo shock iniziale, è lei a fronteggiare la crisi con maggiore energia, mentre Michele, sfiancato da un'infruttuosa ricerca di lavoro, si lascia andare alternando slanci di entusiasmo ed apatia. La distanza tra loro aumenta fino a portarli alla rottura. Solo a questo punto capiscono che rischiano di perdere la loro ricchezza più preziosa: l'amore che ancora li unisce. Il futuro per Elsa e Michele sarà nuovo e sconosciuto, ma forse anche migliore.
