In Balinese “Goregan” means “fried”, it is a word that is often read in Bali but fried is not a thing that belongs to the Balinese culture. Over the decades, the increase in tourism has generated a growing frenzy that has led the calm and peaceful islanders to face a new hectic life also made of quick meals. So small fried food vendors began to proliferate on the streets. Frying oil is expensive and therefore it is not replaced as often as it should, and this endangers the health of many. A Swiss NGO has started a program to raise awareness of the population and developed a system for transforming waste oil into biodiesel.
fritto non é una cosa che appartiene alla cultura balinese. Nei decenni l’aumento del turismo ha generato una crescente frenesia che ha portato i calmi e pacifici isolani a confrontarsi con una nuova vita frenetica fatta anche di pasti veloci. Così nelle strade hanno iniziato a proliferare piccoli venditori di cibo fritto. L’olio da frittura é caro e quindi non viene sostituito con la frequenza che si dovrebbe, e questo mette in pericolo la salute di molti. Una ONG svizzera ha iniziato un programma di sensibilizzare della popolazione e un sviluppato un sistema di trasformazione dell’olio esausto in biodiesel.
