11 April 1991. The VLCC Haven is anchored four miles out from the oil port of Genoa Voltri. During cargo balancing operations on board, a fire breaks out which blazes for three whole days. The documentary aims to recount this disaster story without intending to make accusations and with a view that goes beyond mere ecological themes. It recounts the most serious environmental disaster ever to occur in the Mediterranean, which caused the launch of an enormous rescue and salvage operation and a subsequent environmental clear-up, which is still in progress today, fifteen years after the event.

A bordo della VLCC Haven, alla fonda a quattro miglia dal porto petroli di Genova Voltri, durante le operazioni di bilanciamento del carico si scatena un incendio che si protrae per ben tre giorni. Il documentario si propone di raccontare senza intenti di denuncia e con uno sguardo che va oltre gli aspetti ecologici, la vicenda del più grave disastro ambientale mai verificatosi nel mar Mediterraneo e che fece scattare una gigantesca operazione di soccorso, recupero e poi di bonifica ambientale che oggi, dopo oltre quindici anni è tuttora in corso.
