Leo, a plumber and single father of two, and Diana, a penniless young artist full of ideas, meet one day in a lawyer’s office. Various other people cross their paths: Elia, a young scholastic failure who is secretly raising a stork; Amanzio, who has abandoned his work to live as an urban recluse; Teresa, Leo’s late wife, who drops in every night for a chat; a Chinese slipper-maker named Fiorenzo; as well as a mysterious detective. In the meantime, Diana and Leo fall in love with each other.
